The Easiest Hummus
10 minutes and a blender
Yup, that’s all the time you need for this recipe! I go through phases of loving hummus, and I am definitely in that phase right now. I always recommend hummus to my clients as it has protein, fat, and fiber and is really tasty with veggies, making it perfect for snacking or an addition to a salad.
However, not all hummus is created equal. Many store-bought hummus use refined seed oils like canola and sunflower rather than extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) or avocado oil. Since this recipe is so quick, I tend to choose to make my own hummus, but if I do buy it from the store, I look for one made with EVOO and/or avocado oil – a brand that does a good job of this is Hope.
Enough of the boring stuff; let’s get into the recipe! Btw if this hummus recipe bores you, you can easily get creative and add cooked beets, different herbs like parsley, some lemon (I’m allergic), or whatever else comes to mind!
Easiest Hummus Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 can 15 oz chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice about 1 lemon
- 1 small garlic clove minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil plus extra for drizzling
- 2-3 tbsp water
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin optional
- Salt to taste
- Paprika for garnish, optional
Instructions
- Prep the Chickpeas: Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas.
- Blend Tahini and Lemon Juice First: For the creamiest hummus, start by adding the tahini and fresh lemon juice to your food processor. Let it run for 1-2 minutes before adding anything else. This little trick helps whip the tahini, making your hummus smoother and fluffier.
- Add and Continue blending: Add the chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, cumin, and salt.
- Adjust Texture: Blend until smooth, adding 2-3 tablespoons of water gradually until you reach your desired consistency.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste and adjust seasoning—add more lemon juice, salt, or water as needed.
- Serve: Transfer to a serving bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with paprika for garnish if desired.
