There is no doubt that for most of us radiant, glowing skin is a top priority when it comes to our beauty care regimen. With thousands of products out there all claiming to work wonders for your skin, it can be confusing to know where to start. Of course products are important, however, DIET is actually the most significant factor when it comes down to getting clear, healthy, and glowing skin.

Have you ever heard the expression “you are what you eat”? Well, this is SO true. Our bodies are constantly regenerating DNA, blood cells, and of course skin cells. What you choose to eat today, tomorrow and the next day – will have a direct impact on the quality of your skin cells in a month from now. Even the simplest changes to your diet and everyday routines can prove to be very beneficial to your skin health.

Here are a couple of my favorite daily tips and tricks to help put you on the path to brighter and clearer skin.

1. Start each day with 20 oz of filtered warm water with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.

This simple daily routine will hydrate your body and prepare your liver and kidneys to flush toxins and inflammation. In general, the less toxins we carry around, the clearer our skin will be!

2. Swap processed sugar and desserts for fresh and organic fruits.

Too much sugar can damage collagen, skin elastin and eventually cause wrinkles. If you are craving something sweet, reach for fruits that are high in antioxidants and anti inflammatory properties like blueberries and pineapple.

3. It’s all about the antioxidants.

Free radicals can build up in our bodies and cause damage to cell structures – BUT fear not because nutrient rich foods can help to eliminate toxins through the bowels instead of coming out through the skin. Say goodbye to acne and hello to dandelion greens, arugula, swiss chard, goji berries, raspberries, green tea and dark chocolate!

4. Make Sure to Eat  Healthy Fat.

The essential fatty acids found in foods like avocado, hemp seeds, olive oil and chia seeds can help to to carry oxygen and nutrients throughout your entire body. Eventually they will make their way to your skin and help combat wrinkles and acne.

5. Get More Sleep.

Your body repairs itself while you sleep and a good healing sleep is between 7-9 hours.  Get the quality sleep that your body needs to produce and rejuvenate healthy and vibrant skin cells.

6. Pick your products wisely.

Our skin is our largest organ and needs quality food and products in order to stay healthy. Many skin care products and makeup on the market are loaded with harsh chemicals that can CAUSE skin damage, acne and wrinkles. So that designer anti wrinkle cream may actually be causing more harm than good. Try using natural and organic cleansers, creams, oils, and makeup and watch your skin.
